What is a Shampoo or Conditioner Bar?

A shampoo bar is not soap!  It is a concentrated, solid form of shampoo that is pH balanced to be compatible with your hair and the skin on your scalp. Shampoo bars need to be wetted and massaged into the hair cuticle to produce that lovely lather that will gently cleanse away dirt, sebum and hair product.

Why is a balanced pH important? Depending upon the level of treatment or damage, our hair can have a pH ranging from below 4.0 for virgin hair up to neutral 7.0 for more treated or damaged hair. Using products like castile or bar soap, which have a pH above 8.0, will strip away the lipid layer of the hair stand, causing the hair cuticles to not lay flat. This causes friction and tangling, which further damages your hair. Furthermore, our skin likes a more narrow pH range of 4.7 to 5.9, which is why using higher pH products can lead to an irritated, itchy scalp.
